Hello, my name is Angelina Appel, I’m currently a senior at Bingham High school where I run on the varsity track team. I have been running track since I was in 7th grade. The reason I started running track was because the track coach saw me playing flag football at PE and immediately wanted me on the team. I initially joined the team for fun but instantly found love and passion for the sport. I found that I was determined to continually push myself and be the best athlete I could be in all my events. I aspire to run track at a collegiate level to continue my track journey after high school.
Some of the qualities that make me a great candidate for any collegiate team are my work ethics, my never give up attitude, my respect towards my coaches and teammates, and my integrity. I have demonstrated these personal qualities throughout my childhood all the way up to the point of writing this personal statement. If my coaches asked or directed me to do anything, I would do it with no questions asked. I have always had a high respect for all my coaches and teammates which has led me to be the head cheer captain on my high school cheerleading team. I was unanimously chosen out of all my 43 teammates on the team and in the past years they have always chosen three people to lead the team and this year they only choose one due to my leading capabilities.
At the age of 6 I began performing gymnastics and dance. In gymnastics I quickly excelled at the techniques that were shown to me making my way onto the level four gymnastics team within one year. At the age of 9 years old, I decided to replace dance with cheer while still attending gymnastics. I joined the cheer team while they were already halfway through the season and within those few months I had left of the season I had learned every position they put me in. I started on a level 3 team and by the next season I was put on a level 5 team. My two sports started colliding a lot more since I was on a higher level and had to choose between cheer and gymnastics. I decided to let go of gymnastics and see where cheer would take me with my life, until I got into 7th grade. In 7th grade is when I started track and fell in love with the sport. I broke my Jr High schools 100- and 200- meter record times, now holding the new record for the school. My freshman year of high school I was put onto varsity and was put onto both the 4x1 and 4x2 relay groups as the 4th leg. I made state my first year being on the team in all 4 of my events.
In all sports that I have been involved in, I have strived to never miss any practices or competitions. When my teammates are performing, I try to make sure that I am there supporting them by cheering them on and providing words of encouragement. No matter what I push to give 110% and do my part to lead by example. I make sure that I better myself every day and strive to be someone people look up to and feel that they can follow and use to help push themselves. I will always give my full potential and will be someone you can rely on to do their part. I’m looking for a school with these same qualities. A school that will help to push me to my athletic and academic goals that I have set for myself, that has drive and determination on the team and campus. I want a school that I can grow in and that will help me to be successful in my life.
I would make a great candidate to represent your college because of my strive for success. I have great potential and look forward to helping the success of your team.
