Entering high school track I was intimidated by the atmosphere and realized early that commitment was necessary to go forward with my career. When I attended my first track meet as a freshman, I knew this was what I wanted to pursue. After seeing my time in my first race, I decided that success was not easily obtained. Grit came to play a big role for me as working hard for a short amount of time just wouldn't do, what I needed was perseverance, something that would not only show my progress now but would benefit my goals in the long run. It was my grit that led me to put in the extra work that I am still applying to this day. Many athletes only focus on what they want currently, rather than looking at the big picture, I believe that by using grit, you are not only setting yourself up for success, but you are also training your brain to adapt to the harder challenges that life has to offer. Personally, incorporating the right mindset into athletics is important in order to accomplish the long term goals you set for yourself, which will have a positive impact on your life in the future.
