My name is Ashleigh Helms and I am a senior at the International School in Bellevue Washington. In the future I hope to attend a college or university where I can receive a great education while also competing in high level pole vaulting. I believe I would be a great addition to any school because of my great work ethic and adaptability. For thirteen years I competed in the Junior Olympic program in gymnastics, training 24 hours per week. I qualified for and competed at Western Nationals in 2016 and 2017. I also competed internationally in Costa Rica as a level 10 gymnast in 2017. In the spring of 2018 I decided to join the Newport High School track and field team after having retired from gymnastics. This season I have loved learning about a new sport and have dedicated my time to it. I competed in five different events including, pole vault, triple jump, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and high jump. In my first track season I qualified for King County Championships in all five events. I then went on to place 6th in the 300m hurdles at Districts and 6th in State for pole vault with a PR of 11 feet. Throughout my experiences in athletics and at school I have learned to work hard and diligently as well as keep an overall positive and optimistic outlook. In school I enjoy studying art, history, and languages, and I would love to enter the field of interior design or business in the future. I have worked hard throughout my years in high school, to hold high standards for myself academically and I believe that is reflected by my 3.7 GPA. I look forward to seeing what I can accomplish in my next year of pole vault training and am excited to find a college that will be a great fit for me.
