I'm sincerely grateful for this opportunity and excited to begin the next phase of my life in college.
I spent my junior year rehabbing a spondylolisthesis injury I received at the end of the sophomore year track season. My doctor cleared me to resume all activities in August. I've already done some high jumping. On my first day, I came within two inches of my previous personal record.
This year, I've decided to train for the heptathlon, but I'll compete in each event individually during my track season. Jumping comes naturally. I did well in the long jump at the end of my sophomore year, even though I only spent a week training for it. I also did the 4 x 200 relay. I'm anxious to start training, competing and seeing what I can do in this combined event.
I really like to be involved. I'm the vice-president of my senior class, vice-president of Key Club, secretary of the City of DuPont Mayor's Youth Council, a member of the National Honor Society and co-captain of our cheer team. I'm a three-time state cheer champion. I also have a job at the local golf course doing outside maintenance. It takes a lot of organizational skill but it's worth all of the effort.
Currently, I'm most interested in nursing and physical therapy. I really like to feel as if I'm contributing in a positive way. I like to help people, especially infants, people with special needs, and the elderly.
I'm young, but I'm wise enough to know that I don't know exactly what the future holds for me. I know that I'm willing to work very hard and make the best choices for myself and for my future.
