My name is Chisom Eke and I am an upcoming senior at Skyview High School in Vancouver, Washington. My freshman year in high school is when I decided to go out for the track team, after getting cut from the basketball team. Going into high school my number one motive was to become a better athelete and I was no where near the best. I ran on junior varsity most of the season and I was an alternative for varsity for the Regional and State meets. I ran a personal best of 14.84 in the 100 meter, 30.04 in the 200 meter, and 66.95 in the 400 meter.
Even though I was not the fastest, I was determined to improve my abilities. The summer of my sophomore year I decided if I wanted to get better at what I loved to do, then I had to work hard. And that is exactly what I did, my sophomore year came as a surprise to me, I didn't think all my hard work would pay of but it did. I ran a personal best of 13.63 in the 100 meter, 26.94 in the 200 meter placing second in the district, and a personal best of 60.25 in the 400 meter. This is when I decided that I wanted to continue track in college. Everyday I think about how am I going to get better, what will make me a better, more confident athlete. I know that if I work hard I can accomplish anything.
