Hi, my name is Brooke Graesslin. My family has influenced who I have become. I remember going to high school and college events as a little girl. We were constantly participating in or attending some kind of sporting event. My family has always encouraged me to try what interests me and to do my best. Which is why I have been playing basketball since I was about five years old. I have been running competitively since about third grade. I had played soccer for about six years, but decided to run track in high school instead of soccer.
Through sports I have learned that I am a competitor. I do not like to lose. However, when it does happen, I evaluate what I could have done differently and apply it the next time. I feel I can always do something to get better, both individually and on a team. One of my summer league coaches said that I am “coachable.” My head basketball coach says that I listen and do what I am told, which is why I have been a starter since my freshmen year.
As a freshmen I tore my ACL in our regional basketball game. I have had to work extremely hard to compete at the level I did before it tore. Through physical therapy, a great personal trainer, and my will to compete, I have gotten where I am today.
My competitiveness carries over to the classroom. I have had academic excellence since my freshman year. I would like to continue with a high GPA in college, where I hope to study medicine.
