Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Briyana Barnes!
I am a Junior at Milwaukee Lutheran High School and have run Varsity the last two years. I also run with the Wings of Glory TC both AAU & USATF. I run the 100m, 200m, 400m, and relays. Off season I work on strength and conditioning at home in addition to participating in cross fit. My goals in life are to succeed in high school and college academically as well as in track to later become a Sports Medicine Doctor or Physical Therapist. This coming summer I will be interning with my high school trainer during the football season as a result of me taking the initiative to ask him if there would be an opportunity to work with him. I believe I would be a strong candidate for any team because I give 100% effort to my work in the classroom and in track on and off the field. I first give my education all the time needed to succeed. I then give all my efforts to track even if that means staying a little longer and working a little harder.
My character is unique and different because I love to support and push my teammates and myself to the best of our ability even though it is competitive. My attitude has changed in that it is not always about coming in first, but crossing the finish line knowing I did my best and gave it my all. I apply that learning to everything I do now and will continue to do so in the future.
I am the type of individual who is always laughing and smiling, but also knows how to take the work I put in seriously. Through my athletics and academics I have put myself in the correct mind set to be successful and to put in all the time and effort needed to reach my goals and dream big for my future.
At a USATF Indoor meet in January of 2015 I was involved in a serious collision. I was warming up with blast offs when a 9 year old boy decided to run across the track. I was running full speed and as I lifted my head there was no time to stop. We collided and I landed on the track like a belly flop into a swimming pool. I was diagnosed with whiplash. I went through physical therapy and dry needling for months. When I attempted to go back full speed for the 2015 High School season I ended up pulling my hamstring. Then tried to return too quickly in time for the state qualifying meet and went from a stage 1 pull to a stage 2. Which then impacted my 2015 AAU/USATF outdoor season. I learned a lot in 2015; I am resilient! After all of the ups and downs I am staying positive, back to training, still dedicated track, and looking forward to 2016! I have started my 2016 HS season with more passion, drive, and confidence with excitement to put my spiked back on and finally run!
I believe that with my faith, dedication, attitude, and motivation I can succeed in anything I put my mind to and be an asset on and off the track.
Thank you for your taking the time to learn more about me in consideration for your team.
Make it a great day!
