My goal athletically is to continue my track and field career after high school and my goal academically is to major in biology and then continue to go to medical school to either work in trauma/emergency care or the surgical field.
I have been participating in track and field since I was eligible in 6th grade. When I started participating in high school competitions I knew I would like to continue competing for as long as possible. I had my first taste of what it meant to fall in love with a sport but have it also break your heart my freshman year. I was competing at our regional event when I had one more jump left and half an inch to beat to qualify for sectionals. I jumped my best jump at the time and the event judge called "mark" but then another coach from a different school chimed in and claimed it was a foul. The judge then took back what she said and then said it was a foul. We looked at pictures later in the day to see that my foot was perfectly on the board. It will not ever be known for sure but if i would have continued to jump like I had all season, I would have went to sectionals and qualified for state my freshman year. This fueled me to improve myself for next year and qualify then which is what I did. I took 1st place at regionals with a jump of 16' 11 and took third place at sectionals with a jump of 16' 10.25" I went on to qualify for state which is where I jumped my personal best of 17' 2" and I am now working towards beating my school record of 17' 8".
I am now struggling to find a place where I will fit after high school. It has become a challenge to find a school that has a great blend of academics and athletics. If a school fits me academically it does not fit me athletically, or if it fits me athletically it does not fit me academically. I am hoping to find where I belong in both aspects.
