Personal Statement
Work ethic and drive are qualities I learned years before participating in track, but now I am able to utilize my work ethic to achieve success. I began my running career in the 6th grade joining the cross country and track teams. That spark ignited my love of running, that continues today. I immediately loved running as it was a way I could continually grow and prove there were no limits to success. I especially grew fond of these sports because I was able to realize the work that I put it into it. There is nothing quite as satisfying as getting a PR and achieving the goal you put so many miles in to reach.
Many athletes practice everyday after school, the time I am usually clocking into work at a Veterinarian clinic, where I work as a vet assistant. I loved running too much to give up my sport and chose to practice in early mornings so I still can compete with my fellow teammates, and keep my job. My eagerness for practices proved to my coaches I was willing to go above and beyond to compete. Your attitude determines a great deal about a person and I am just grateful to race and compete. Our ability to adapt, change and grow surpass any difficulty we encounter whether in a race or in life. Being diagnosed with Addison's disease in 8th grade made my freshman year very difficult to even attend school, let alone compete. It was a diagnosis that turned life as I knew it upside down. I've spent a fair share of my life in emergency rooms, doctors offices, and having my blood drawn regularly. However, I have been able to adapt to my situation and find the best in it. I wanted my battle to make me someone else's hope. I knew I was still me, the runner I was before. I was not the disease. So I took back to the track, determined as ever, and earning a state championship with my 4x400m team this year. Track has taught me to dream big and not only on those eight lanes. I plan on graduating from Douglas High School and pursuing my dreams in the field of medicine. I hope to get the opportunity to keep competing at the collegiate level and be an asset to a team.
