Ever since I first picked up a volleyball, this sport has been a central part of my life. Even in the third grade, I knew that volleyball was my passion and was something that I wanted more than anything. I love the adrenaline, the feeling that you get when you play. After games, I stay awake at night because I can't get the game or practice out of my head. The sport of volleyball is so much more than a physical game, yes it pushes your body to the limit but it pushes your mind even further. On the court at your lowest point, you have to keep going, not for yourself but for your teammates.
I love being able to pick up my teammates after they have made a mistake. As a natural leader- winner of my high school varsity team's Leadership Award (an award gifted to the individual on the team who the players feel is the strongest leader) and the Area Tournament MVP I am highly supportive of others and put all my effort into whatever I am doing, whether it is schoolwork or volleyball.
That being said, I would be so thankful for the opportunity to play on a team at an amazing college that prizes academics and rigorous learning. I am a very family oriented person and I am blessed to have such a supportive family. My parents never miss one of my games and that means more to me than they can ever know. As a strong Christian, I am very compassionate towards others and am always willing to help anyone in need.
In terms of athletic skill, I am a 6'2 girl who has played volleyball since she was in the third grade. With a couple years of club experience and two years of starting on my varsity high school team under my belt , I feel not only do I have a physical understanding of the game, I have a mental understanding. Whether it be memorizing rotations or knowing when to run a certain play, the mental aspects of the game fascinate me and drive me to play even harder.
I am always willing to crack a joke, no matter how terrible it might be, seeing a smile on people's face makes my day. Although, when it comes to the volleyball court I am very competitive, and if I make a mistake I want the next ball. In the past year the sport of volleyball has changed my life, it has made me better as a player and has created lifelong friendships with people I never would have met otherwise. This sport is something that I would be honored to carry with me through the rest of my life.
