Hello! My name is Vaeda Burkhead and I am an American student-athlete currently living in Costa Rica. In 2021 when I graduate from high school, I will be moving back to the United States with my family to head off to college. Currently, I am playing on three teams: the Varsity team for Country Day School in Costa Rica, the National under-18 team for Alajuela, Costa Rica, and the National premier division team for Goicochea. Playing on several different levels of volleyball has shown me what I want from the game; I need a team bond that will help me enjoy the game for what it is and I need not just to play but to be successful and notice my growth as a player.
In 2018, my National Junior team (U18 UNED) won the Junior National Championship. I can’t remember a time I’ve ever felt more accomplished and proud of, not only myself, but a team as a whole. A big part of this feeling was not only from winning, but from having an understanding, patient, and approachable coach to guide me along the way. To further progress, I need a coach who inspires me to the the best I can be and whose confidence in my abilities drives me to be better than I think I can be.
Whenever I think of playing in college, I feel a little overwhelmed. I know I can, but, man! That’s a lot of volleyball! I’d like my college experience to be more than just volleyball. I look forward to and really would like to have a well-rounded college experience, complete with sports, friends and what I hope will be a stellar education.
As of now, I’m leaning towards studying animal or equine sciences (maybe even pre-veterinary medicine) to work towards a future career in general animal sciences.
