Personal Statement
Volleyball's high intensity and comradery are what drew me into playing. There is no other feeling than when a teammate or yourself drills a ball onto the other side of the court, the rush of power that gives a player is unlike any other. Knowing that the player next to you always has your back and you will always have theirs is something that volleyball consistently provides whereas other sports do not. The reality that everyone is working hard for a common goal and supporting each other wholeheartedly creates a relationship that is not only strong but in my perspective unbreakable. I chose volleyball because the team, coaching staff, and supporters quickly become the most selfless family you could ever imagine. This comradery is appealing to me and what I think makes or breaks a team.
As an athlete in Alaska and also being a military child, it was always a struggle to be able to stay with a team for more than three years. This struggle of moving to a new school and new people and a new team ever so often in my early years was a blessing in disguise. As I grew older and began high school I chose to attend the "less athletic" school, it had just recently been opened and wasn't known for its success in volleyball. I needed to make the decision and I ultimately decided that I wanted to be part of the rise of volleyball at my high school. I wanted a challenge and I knew that before being an athlete I am a student and working extra hard in volleyball while also getting a better education would be the best decision for me. I wanted to be part of the team that took my school to a new level.
As an individual player, I bring to the team that extra boost of communication and leadership. I am never afraid to be the loudest on the court and will never turn down an opportunity to be a leader. My military background has allowed me to become a diverse player. I adjust quickly to new coaching styles and the different teaching methods. I am hoping to attend a college on the west coast but I am open to many other places as well. I am going to get my degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development. In hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher after my volleyball career. I am looking forward to my future and am so excited to see what new achievements I can reach!
