Personal Statement
Hello,
I’m Melissa Blockey, and I’m a setter in the class of 2019. Sports and the outdoors have always been important to me but no other sport has connected with me like volleyball. I started playing when I was 10 years old, and it’s been my dream to play college volleyball ever since. The physical and mental challenges drew me in and have helped teach me how to keep striving to be my best, not only in volleyball but in all parts of life.
My parents have been amazing examples of the importance of putting others first, and they’ve instilled this trait in my sister and I. As a setter, it’s been natural for me to apply this approach. I’m always looking for ways to help my teammates be their best. It’s important to know each of them well, and work with them to carry out the coach’s plan. In the process, it’s helped me lead my team. I’ve seen each season that being close as teammates is a key to success, and this helps me get closer to being my best.
The highest goal I have for my college years is to become the best “me” that I can be, and choosing the right college is very important to that goal. I’m looking for a college where I can build my future in an environment with a rich college campus experience, and high academic standards. Volleyball is a top priority, so I’m looking for a competitive volleyball program where I can apply my passion for challenging myself. The volleyball team will be the center of my college life, and I’d like the program to have a close volleyball culture that will be like a second family. I’ll do everything I can to make my future coach very glad that they chose me to be part of their program.
I’m very excited to visit campuses that may be a good fit and choose a future college to begin the next part of my life!
Thanks for taking the time to look at my profile.
