Wow...what can I write here that hasn't already been said, a million times. I could put down I am 6'7" and have an insane reach as well as not only set, but also block, and hit...and no one can touch my serve! At least I have you reading right now and wondering, right? Ok...joking, but, I do love volleyball and I want to play in college. I've had some setbacks and some successes. Covid derailed part of my club season in 2021 and I learned all about attitude and adversity. I've been able to make a mark on both my high school freshman team this year as well as my club team, as a setter. I've also been moved to hitter and DS, whatever my coaches need. Volleyball isn't always all fun and games, it's work! It's work when you're up at midnight doing homework after 3 hours of club practice and have a workout and test in the morning. It's work to keep motivated and keep my team up. I'm intense at times, so it's work to try and keep my team up and rolling. But...it's work I WANT. I don't know what I would do without volleyball. I've been playing since I was 10 and am always the youngest on my team. I'm growing as a person and as a player. I'm also growing as a student, especially when I have to put in the work to make sure I keep my grades up and continue to play volleyball. I guess what I'm trying to say here is I'm not afraid of WORK. Work gets me on a national team, on my high school team, on the Beta club and with high grades. I like school, I like a challenge and I love volleyball. It all fits. I may not be some 6'7" volleyball monster, but I'm pretty good, have great and honest coaches, want to play at the next level and continue to improve my game and skills as a player and as a setter. I'd love to talk to you!
If you want to get an idea of the kind of person I am and what is important to me, look at my jersey number. 13. Most people think that is unlucky. I'm honored to wear 13 at Mount St. Mary Academy, especially and also at 501. I've even asked permission. Several years ago, the person who made #13 what it is, Mary Drake, was a star athlete at my high school. One night, after coming home from visiting her grandparents, she was in a horrible car accident. She almost died, several times. When she recovered, she couldn't walk, or sit up, or even talk anymore. Being Catholic, and going to the same Church and school Mary originally went to, Christ the King, we prayed for her constantly. She became a hero in the community. Today, in our gym at the Mount, there is a big sign that reads: "Mary Drake "#13" Perseverance." That is what and who she is. She has done so much and even though her life has changed, she continues to be an example and model to us all. I wear #13 to honor Mary, the Drake family, even though most don't realize it. She is a hero to me. Her parents are the best people ever, still take care of her and allow me to make my small gesture.
Mount St. Mary has retired the 13. However I will continue to wear for club season.
Coach Referral Letter:
Izziey Crane has all the characteristics that you want in a setter. She is a leader, coachable, adjusts to what her hitters need, and a true team player. I have know Izziey for several years and I have watched her grow a lot over the years as a player and young woman. One of my favorite things about coaching her is she always has an open mind to try new things. Izzie understands the game and works hard to understand the opponents and what will best “set” her hitters up for success. Because of these things, I think she will be very successful at the next level!
