Personal Statement
I am an experienced Libero who is always hustling, always determined to give every ounce of my energy, always focused, consistent, tough and reliable both mentally and physically. I am determined and driven to do whatever it takes to further my volleyball career past high school! I am a unique, coachable, dialed-in student athlete who has a positive attitude, strong work ethic and a willingness to improve. Unlike others, I work well under pressure and have a strong mental game which allows me to make in-game changes and adjustments by learning from mistakes/observations as well as succeed in intense and high-pressure situations! My goals in the future are to play post secondary, working to later compete on the National Team and eventually play internationally. Since I first stepped on the court, I have aspired to play at the collegiate level and I have worked to ensure that I am ready for a demanding high performance environment. I have strong passing, diving, serving and setting skills, as well as a high volleyball IQ. I am a team leader and try to lead by example while also encouraging my teammates. I am very coachable, always asking questions and listening to feedback and I strive to be one of the hardest working players for any team I am a part of. On and off the court, I am a volleyball player. I keep a binder and journal where I log goals and areas for improvement for each practice, game and overall tournament. I also watch videos of myself as another way of self assessment at home so that I can observe the change I need to implement as well as observe my progression. As a student athlete, I have a 4.0/4.0 GPA which I have maintained while taking all demanding courses at school as well as playing volleyball 5-7 days a week.
Beginning training in grade 5, I have been surrounded by volleyball for a majority of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Like many others, when I began playing I was instantly in love with the incredible game. With 5 years of club experience and 6 years of school volleyball experience, my adoration for the sport was sparked at a young age and has continued to grow. Beginning to play with our school’s senior team (gr.11 & gr.12) in grade 8 was an experience that allowed me to grow even more. In an environment where I was surrounded by players who were more advanced than me taught me how to adjust to new game play, receive harder hits and become familiar with specific plays, hits and serves. I was 100% motivated to compete with these girls and that is how I play today. Whether in practice or games, I always give complete effort and focus on each movement to the best of my abilities, always pushing myself to improve. Becoming team captain for my High School team made me an even stronger and louder leader on the court. My coaches and teammates trusted me to make quick and weighing decisions for our team which brought us success during our season. When Covid-19 became worse in BC, I found myself without a girls volleyball team at school so I went on and joined the senior boys team, working to match their athleticism and skill while learning and becoming accustomed to the difference between the men’s and women's game.
For post secondary education I am looking for a volleyball program that is a demanding high performance environment where the players share their passion and commitment to their sport with me! I have been trained by numerous post secondary coaches and players, through camps, lessons, club and on Team BC, many who have played at the national and international level which has also helped make me unique in contrast with other players. I hope to connect with a program that shares these athletic and academic passions. Thanks!
