Personal Statement
My goals for post-secondary is to continue playing the sport I love and further my education. I am a determined, organized and hard working student, who always pushes myself to my full potential. Balancing school and volleyball has never been a problem for me because I am specific about my time management. I enjoy to be challenged and pushed on and off the court. As a child I grew up in Northern B.C, where hockey is everywhere. At 2 years old I was introduced to sports with skates tied on my feet, and a soccer ball trailing behind me. At 5 years old I was playing soccer and hockey full time, I stuck with soccer and hockey until I was 14 years old. During the last years of my soccer and hockey career I fell out of love with the sport, it caused me to loose the passion for the game I once had. My last year playing hockey, I was offered a spot to try out for the team B.C all girls team. When I started high school I was determined to make the junior A volleyball team. With my drive I picked up the rules and systems of the game in a week and attended the try outs. Unfortunately I didn't have the experience and the coach told me "I wasn't good enough." To this day those words still drive me to be better and continue to improve. That year a teacher stepped up and created a junior B team, and I attended the try outs. The coach believed in me and gave me a position on the team. I spent every waking moment that year practicing and improving, and I earned a starting position as an outside hitter. That season my team went undefeated and I won the most improved offensive player of the year for my school. Later that year I went and tried out for Sky Volleyball Club and made the high performance AA team. Since that year I have pushed myself to improve year after year, with my passion that struck for the game I have made the junior A team in my grade 10 year as a starting outside hitter, I made the high performance u16 AA team as a starting outside hitter and gained respect from the junior A team coach from the previous year. I am currently in grade 11, practicing with my senior AAA team and I have recently made the high performance u17 AA team for Sky Volleyball. I am looking forward to continuing to growing as a player and student at the university level.
