Personal Statement
Hi, I'm Nicole Fernandez and my goal is to graduate college in four years and to hopefully continue playing volleyball throughout those years. I'm excited to have the opportunity to improve my skills on the volleyball court and in my academics. I make a good candidate for the team because I'm very dedicated and whole-hearted in everything that I do. Even if I'm having a bad day, I'm able to set things aside and put all my energy and effort into playing. Not only do I rarely take criticism personally, but I maintain a level head throughout games and practices, focusing on my teammates and the mistakes that I need to correct. I've been playing volleyball since about fifth grade and have been playing in volleyball clubs for 5 years. I made the JV team my freshman year as the starting setter, earning myself the award for MVP. Sophomore year I was the starting setter on the Varsity team, earning a scholastic honors award for maintaining a GPA of 3.8 during the season and another award as best defender. I will be playing on Varsity again this junior year as setter and secondary libero. I believe the many years of experience that I've obtained have allowed me to have a better understanding of the sport in its entirety and has helped me to be a much wiser player. I'm very committed to school and have been able to maintain a GPA higher than 3.8 throughout my 2 years of high school so far and ended my sophomore year with a 4.0. I'm different from other recruits because I love to learn, I'm not afraid to fail, and I'm willing to put as much effort as possible into everything that I do.
