Amani Watson '19 Recruiting Profile

My goals for the future are to go to college to study marine biology or cinema studies.  I would like to work with marine animals to care and train them to be in their natural environment.  My other option would be to study film and cinema and work in the field behind the cameras.  These are my two passions that I would like to investigate as I move into adulthood.  I would like to explore careers in these areas.  I feel fortunate that both of these careers are close my home and that I have access to many opportunities nearby.

My additional goals would be to strive academically and to continue to play volleyball.  My academics are important to me because I need a strong education to get into college and pursue my dreams.  I would like to advance in volleyball to stay in athletic shape and hopefully obtain some scholarships.

My team has always been important to me because it gives me a sense of belonging and I have grown to learn from my teammates.  I have learned good sportsmanship by setting aside differences and focusing on the game.  I have learned through experience that when a teammate is not a team player, it can bring the team down. This has made me into a better team player, one who encourages and cheers for each other.  I maintain a positive outlook while on the court because I have found that to help our momentum.  Being on a team and setting goals has helped me want to achieve in my personal life as well.

I think I stand out among other players because of my positive attitude and my skill set.  I  believe that I can always improve and I respect that my coaches can guide me to be a better player.  Listening to others and focusing on my own goals has made me into the person that I am today.  I know that I have to work hard to earn my place in the world and on the court.  I may not stand out as an exemplary player because I want to be part of the team, a person who contributes to the whole.  But in my mind I know that I am standing out to those who have guided me to get to where I am today.  I would not be the person I am today without the many people who have guided me, taught me, and cared for me.  It is all of that, that makes me stand out above the rest.  Being humble, but successful is an important quality in all aspects of my life.
