Personal Statement
My name is Sophie Srivastava and I am a 2-time varsity starter as both a sophomore and a junior. For the last three years of club volleyball, I have started and played almost every minute of every game, and I am usually the on-court captain. Making varsity volleyball as a sophomore and then being made captain as a junior were great experiences for me. I was initially concerned about taking on a leadership role as one of the youngest players on the team, but I learned that I have the ability to be a leader. I learned that I am willing to sacrifice myself or push myself farther for what the team needs, and that I can encourage my teammates to do the same.
My primary position is setter, but I also play right side hitter. I am tall for a setter, and I’m quick and coordinated for being tall. My teammates appreciate my friendliness, my support, and my positive attitude. My coaches appreciate that I show up to practice or games regardless of illness, injury, or workload. Prior to volleyball, I played competitive soccer for five years. My soccer coach insisted on 100% effort and attention at all times. This work ethic has stuck with me throughout both my volleyball and my academic career, and my coaches appreciate this dedication and commitment.
My academic goals for high school are to maintain my high GPA (currently 4.233) and work to get myself into the best college I can for my career. My academic goals for college are to challenge myself, set myself up for life after college, and to become one of the best in my chosen career. I believe that I have the talent to compete on a college team, and also the work ethic and commitment to make the team the best it can be!
