Personal Statement
College is an amazing opportunity to further my education and gain more experience with athletics. Because both of my parents went to college and graduated, college is a big deal in my family. My dad was the first person in his family to attend and graduate from college. Ever since I can remember, college has always been in my future for my siblings and me. We are a family of six, with my younger sister affected with Down syndrome. My older sister and brother are currently in college and our family is making sacrifices to help them attend. Because I have seen how attending college has affected many of my relatives and close family members in many positive ways, I would love to gain similar experiences, and ultimately help me be more successful later in life. My goal is to attend college and play collegiate level volleyball. My aspirations would be to one day be an entrepreneur, opening my own business. I would love to start a business working with people in poverty in other countries around the world and empowering them and enable them to get off the streets. I love putting things together and helping people run things; I also like leading groups so a business like this has always interested me. My business would help people in poverty make a product and sell it, creating their own business. Music has been a passion of mine, so another option could be teaching music and starting a school through it. I believe that I have been blessed with amazing opportunities and gifts that I want to use to help other people and share the word of God with them through whatever I may do. I am an extremely hard worker and team player. I do not need to be told twice to do something and will give you 110%. I am often called a focused person, due to the fact that once I commit to something you will have my full attention and I will work endlessly to make whatever we are working towards happen. My parents have raised me to love the Lord and other people. I believe that a person character is made by what they do and who they are when serving others. I have always tried to live by this. Examples would be in how I have served as a volunteer for the past 5 years serving families and children affected by disabilities; or the month I was selected to volunteer at a Young Life Camp this past July. I have been able to balance being entirely committed to my volleyball team and coaches, work in school to maintain a 4.0 GPA and continue my volunteer work. A coach would be getting an extremely hard worker who is passionate about volleyball and serving others. I love playing all the way round and take as much pride in my defense as I do my offense; I have jump served since 8th grade.
