Personal Statement
hi! my name is gleecy comamo, and i've been playing volleyball since i was in sixth grade. i tried out for the girls team for the first time, and to be quite honest; i didn't find volleyball interesting as a sixth grader. they said that only seventh and eighth graders were top priority in picking members of the team, but i didn't really care. next thing you know, i was the only sixth grader that made it on the girls' team with a bunch of seventh and eighth graders. after a few years, my love for volleyball just progressively grew, to the point where i was always eager to step on the court. freshman year, i would switch between starting opposite hitter, or starting setter; being the only freshman to start with a bunch of upperclassmen was exhilarating. one of the most satisfying things to know and hear as a little freshman is that you made a good set to a senior, and those seniors explicitly stating that that set felt good, and thanking you. sophomore year, my position was the same as freshman year. junior and senior year, i held the position of setter throughout. junior year, i was given the award of "coach's choice". the last few games of my high school senior year, i was given the title of "captain," and it was one of the greatest achievements of my whole volleyball career. i believed i had what it took to be a captain for my team because i was capable of understanding how my teammates played, guiding them, and instructing them on what to do within the court, and making sure they're not lost. despite being really competitive, the only results that i strive for is not victory, but progress, and growth. i know that i am not the best, but i know that i strive to be the best; practicing, improving, and growing not only as an athlete, but an individual.
