2022 SpotlightHello, my name is MaKayla Lindsay and I am 15 years old. When I watched my first volleyball game, I knew right then and there that I wanted to play Volleyball. As the energy increased in the game, I felt like I should be part of a team like that. I always knew you couldn’t get what you want just by sitting down, so I decided to get up and practice through the downs of my journey. When I struggle, I don't let that get to me; instead, I find the best help. So now, thanks to my math teacher taking the time to tutor me, I have a 3.6 GPA. I plan to bring that same driven mindset with me as I aim to be on the Select Team next season as the setter and practice Volleyball for at least one hour five days a week.
To me, it is essential to be the best student you can be, and because of my hard work, I have earned Student of the Year for two years in a row, accepted into my school’s Honor Roll for most of my years in school, and Perfect Attendance for several years - to name a few. My hard work helped me academically and in other areas, such as practicing independently and with my team on the court. In practices and games, I set the mood by cheering loudly and encouraging my teammates. When I practice, I put my one hundred percent so that it can be just as great in the game. I do speed training with mostly boys. I am competitive; I stay focused and get the workouts done first. To be well-rounded as I go to college, some of my goals are to study, make friendships that could last a lifetime, finish reading the bible, and develop good habits.
