Hi! My name is Sophie, and I live in a small mountain town, with just under 400 residents. I have been passionate about volleyball since the first opportunity I was given to play, in 8th grade, where three other players and I practiced on an outdoor tennis court, rain or shine. Due to the lack of a gym, limited opportunity, and an insufficient number of players, I travel over two mountain passes, 55 miles one way, to Creede, Colorado, for practices and games (4-6 times a week). This aspect of the sport leaves no room for lack of commitment, has taught me to make every second spent on the court count, and greatly shaped me as an athlete.
Aside from volleyball, I have participated in sports including basketball, soccer, track, and cross-country. Being on the varsity volleyball team since my freshman year has taught me leadership, work ethic, goal setting, and performance. I fully intend on graduating high school with a 4.0 GPA, and I challenge myself to carry that on throughout college. The strong role models in my life, my older brother and single mother, have shown me that nothing comes close to the feeling of working and succeeding as a team, which is why I believe college volleyball would be a great fit for me. I know I could be an asset to any team by bringing my energy, commitment, positivity, and determination.
