Personal Statement
My name is Danica Nossaman, and I am a DS/Libero for the class of 2021. Sports have been a huge part of my life, starting with competitive gymnastics at the age of 5. By the age of 11, I was named State champion both individually and with my team, qualified for the TOPS program run by the USAG National Team Coordinator, and qualified for Regionals. Due to an injury, I switched from gymnastics to volleyball. Years of training at 22 hours a week as a gymnast enabled me to carry over the athletic ability and body awareness to volleyball, which has benefited me greatly. I am a well-rounded and versatile player on the volleyball court, and I have played positions in both the front row and the back row, including PIN hitter, setter, DS, and libero, and am able to step in wherever my team and coach need me to.
My goal is to play volleyball at the collegiate level while attending a highly selective school to challenge me both athletically and academically. I am currently attending Heritage High School where I am involved in volleyball, student government, and take Honors and AP classes. I focus on putting full effort into all my high school activities to successfully prepare for college and am involved in a wide variety of activities to help me develop into a well-rounded student-athlete. As a major, I am interested in studying biology and sports medicine, marine biology, or international relations.
When on the volleyball court, I focus on not only becoming a better player, but also helping my team become better as a whole. My positive attitude, encouraging spirit, and integrity are traits that help me succeed on the court and also help me thrive in my academic environment. I also have the motivation and determination it takes to accomplish things to the best of my ability which also contributes to the success of my athletic and academic goals, and also benefits those around me. My coaches can rely on me to make plays and keep my team calm under pressure, a skill I learned as a gymnast.
