My name is Hannah Ruth Upton. I have been playing volleyball since the fourth grade. Doing something for a very long time hour after hour, day in and day out can get tiring and boring. You can lose your passion and your fire. I have been part of three different clubs and as much as I hate to admit it, I lost my passion. I love to win, and when that didn't happen I just didn't see the point.
Eventually I realized: Volleyball isn't just a game to me, its not just something to win. Yes, winning is the best feeling in the entire world, but more than that, the 900 square feet I spend the majority of my time on is like home. Its a familiarity. No matter where I am, no matter what club I am in, I just want to play the game. I realized that the whole reason I played in the first place was because I loved the game. Win or lose, at the end of the day, if I got to step on the court, it was a great day.
I believe I am different from other recruits because I don't know what I want to do when I get older, besides the fact that i want to be on a volleyball court for as long as my heart still beats.
I believe that it is very important, no matter what position I am playing, to be a positive leader on and off the court. To ensure that I am fit to be an effective leader, I made sure to be a part of two different leadership teams: one at my school and one at my church. I am enrolled in all honors classes and I am also taking Spanish 2 as an elective.
In my family, we are not allowed to participate in sports unless all of our classes are above a C so I am used to having to maintain good grades. My unweighted GPA is a 3.7, although my core GPA is 4.0. I love this game more than the air I breathe. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to go to the next level and play in college.
