Personal Statement
My name is Saige Sherbacow and I am a true Floridian, born and raised. I come from a single parent household. My mother is a widow, my father having passed away from cancer when I was in 4th grade. It's been rough on the family but my mother and my faith have been my strength.
I started playing volleyball when I was 13. I had grown up playing softball but found that I didn't get the drive and passion to continue playing. I took to volleyball right away. When I stepped out on the court it just felt right. It's the sport I needed to play. It took me a little while to figure out where I fit but Right Side seems to be it. I can also play Outside or wherever I'm needed on the court. Coming from softball where I was a catcher, I have a strong arm and legs from squatting. Having a strong arm really really helped my serving. It's at 90% overall. When I played for Top Select 2017-2019, I attended clinics provided by the club and have also taken privates with various Top Select coaches. My game has only gotten better. I'm very coachable and I know that I've improved in all volleyball areas and will continue to do so. I work hard on and off the court and know I can contribute in whatever role falls to me. I just recently switched clubs to Five Stars where I made the U18 Elite squad. I'm looking forward to playing with my new club.
As for my studies, I want a degree in Education, specifically Special Education with a minor in psychology. When I was in middle school, I helped the teachers with younger students. I was helping them with homework, in class assignments and explaining projects. I found I really enjoyed it. I've also been involved with children that have special needs and found that I am able to successfully connect with them. I've had that experience in both school and volunteering at my church. Working with elementary or early-childhood students is something I would like to pursue, and I want to help kids whether it's through teaching or counseling. My high school has different tracts of study and I'll be in the Education tract. Although I haven't chosen a college yet, I know I want it to have a strong Education major.
