Personal Statement
The first time I set foot on a volleyball court I knew it was something I was meant to do. I tightened my laces, slid my knee pads up and I was ready. My expectations were exceeded and by the end of practice I wanted it to be the next day already so I could practice again. The week went by and I finally got to play in my first tournament. This was in the second grade when I thought that a youth club volleyball game to 20 was the most important game in the world. The coach had moved me up to play on the A team with third and fourth graders even though I had never played before that week of practice so the pressure was on. Our team won the tournament that day and I even made a couple overhand serves. I set the goal to play college volleyball when I fell in love with the sport that day in second grade. I know that with skill, hard work, the right mental attitude and character, and the willingness to learn and be coached, I can fulfill this goal.
Growing up in a small school, I have had so many opportunities in athletics, academics and extracurricular activities. I am a three sport athlete and I am involved in FFA, Student Body Government, National Honors Society and Yearbook. I play volleyball and basketball and run track and field and have been on Varsity for all three sports since Freshman year. My volleyball team has not had the chance to compete at state but I have competed in state basketball bringing home a fourth place trophy last year and in state track for the past three years competing in the 3200m run, 1600m run, 400m, 4x400m relay, and triple jump. I have won First Team All Conference for volleyball and basketball the past two years and was awarded Second Team All State for basketball. I also received the most dedicated award for track.
Striving to keep up good grades is something that is very important to me. I balance practicing and training for sports with classwork and academics as best I can. I have a 4.0 GPA and scored a 1110 on the SAT. I have won numerous awards for academic excellence in math, science, and English classes and I am have been enrolled in multiple AP classes for English and math. I love to excel in school and take it very seriously. I have competed at the National level in FFA twice for Floriculture and Food Science. I worked hard on both of these teams and we won 6th place and 3rd place in the nation.
I have held offices in National Honor Society, Student Body Government, and FFA and am currently the President of National Honor Society and the Secretary of Cambridge FFA as well as Class President. I have served as Student Body President, and Sergeant at Arms, District FFA Treasurer, and Chapter FFA Reporter and Vice President. These roles of leadership have allowed me to be thoroughly involved in my school and community all throughout high school.
These are a few of my highlights from high school. I have been fortunate enough to participate in many well rounded activities and sports. I plan to keep pushing myself further and working hard in college. Volleyball is my passion and I would like to continue to play competitively in college. My favorite quote that I continuously tell myself is “Just Don’t Quit.” I will not quit on my goal and dream of playing college volleyball.
