Personal Statement
My name is Katelyn Stegman. I am a setter with great hands and I have a natural hand placement on the ball (this has been noticed by opposing coaches and various referees). I have been a setter for five years. My coaches have been impressed with my improvement of setting abilities throughout the past years. I move to the ball and play the ball off the net very well. I’m not intimidated to go all out and save the ball. I am also outstanding in the back row at passing the ball. I provide controlled passes to the setter, which is why I have been called by the team to go in the back row to help support the passing. The coaches felt that my passing would cause a spark and they knew that they could depend on me. Many referees have noted that I would be a great setter or a great libero. My coaches felt comfortable with me helping out with blocking and hitting front row too. Regardless of my height currently of 5’3”. My block is presently 8’0” and my approach jump at this point in time is 8’4”. With continuing training, practice, and playing my performance measurable will keep on growing. For the 2013-2014 school year I was asked to play swing on both Varsity and Junior Varsity. I was mostly a back row passer on Varsity and a starting setter for Junior Varsity. I was asked to be starting setter on Varsity this 2014-2015 year. I’ve played club for three years and have always been the setter. My motivation for playing college volleyball is to represent my team, school, and myself to the best of my abilities by upholding an exemplary behavior, attitude, and performance. I aspire to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to become a nurse so I can benefit people. I am compassionate towards the medical needs of other people. I look forward to being part of a school and athletic program that is both successful and exceptional.
