Personal Statement
For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed competing and the mental/physical challenges involved in sports. As a three-sport athlete, I have discovered that I am more mentally tough than I thought I was. I’ve been playing sports since I was 4 years old, starting with soccer, then, as soon as I was able, I joined swim team. From then on, I have participated on one sport or another, basically year-round. Soccer, softball, basketball, swim team I even tried cheerleading for a season, but decided it wasn't right for me. Beginning in Junior High School, my focus narrowed to volleyball and basketball, both of which I continue to play. I joined the track team in sixth grade and focused mainly on discus and shot put, continuing through seventh grade. I decided not to throw in eighth grade but regretted the choice and rejoined the track team my freshman year. I started playing volleyball in seventh grade and fell in love with it. I started club volleyball in eighth grade and have continued playing since then.
As an athlete, I am continually striving to improve, both with my skills and with the technical aspects of my sports. With that in mind, I readily accept the criticism and observations of coaches to make me a better person and player. I am committed to my teammates and to the structure, strategies, and goals of the Team. I have learned that I play so much better when I just trust myself and my abilities.
Perhaps of more importance than my athletic activities is my academic performance. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my school years, including High School. I have worked really hard to achieve it and it is my personal goal to graduate with a 4.0 GPA. College is first and foremost about getting the best education that I possibly can. While I have not yet experienced college level courses, my plan is to continue working my hardest and to be successful at the next level.
