Personal Statement
I played several sports as a youth and in fourth grade I began playing volleyball at the YMCA. When my dad picked me up from my first practice I told him, “I found my sport, don’t ever let me quit”. I’ve never thought of quitting this sport I've fallen in love with. Over the past six years volleyball has taught me the value of discipline, team work, determination, and leadership that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Progressing to a more competitive volleyball club has helped me grow and taught me that anything is possible through hard work and perseverance. As a result, I’ve been given great opportunities throughout my volleyball career. Last year my 15’s team was seeded 26th and placed 5th in the AAU Girls Nationals in Orlando and this year I was invited to play on SPVB 18 Navy during my 16’s year. The power and tempo of play on the 18’s has helped me grow stronger, and more competitive this season. Another great experience I’ve had was playing in the Junior Olympic Beach Volleyball Qualifiers in Hermosa, CA. The competition was remarkable and strongly motivated me to work harder to be the best player and teammate I can possibly be. I am looking for a program that challenges me academically as well as athletically. I currently work with younger players coaching a team at Great Lakes Club Youth Academy and I organized and coached a group of 6th-8th grade girls at Simmons Middle School in Aurora, IL this past summer. I aspire to study Health Sciences and I am considering physical therapy for my major, as I want to stay involved in sports for the rest of my life, and help other athletes play at their highest level.
