Personal Statement
I would like to compete in college volleyball because playing volleyball provides an escape for me to get away from the stress in my life. When I am on the court next to my teammates and best friends, I can just play and enjoy what I am doing without worrying about the pressures of school. I would also like to participate in college volleyball in order to make life-long friendships. I know that the teammates I have now will be my close friends forever, and I want more bonds like those. I think volleyball is a great way to release stress and make forever friends who you can count on in times of need.
On the court, I not only help my team excel physically by providing my hitters with great sets, but I also help my team mentally by acting as the "sparkplug." I enjoy being the "cheerleader" for both my passers and hitters when they perform to the best of their ability. When my team struggles, I try to build my teammates up by remaining positive and energetic. My biggest strengths on the volleyball court include being a scrappy defender, a strong setter that can push the ball from pin-to-pin, and a versatile player that can substitute as an opposite when needed. My coaches have described me as energetic, strong mentally and physically, and a leader. In school, I have worked to receive the best grades I am capable of. I have had a 4.0 GPA and achieved High Honors throughout my entire academic career. I currently qualify as an Illinois State Scholar which requires at least a 28 on the ACT and a 4.0 GPA. I have received awards in each subject the past two years of high school, and I am a member of the National Honor Society.
My college volleyball goals include helping my parents with my college fees, competing with my teammates to win as many games as possible, making forever friendships, and bettering my game of volleyball. My academic goals include achieving the best grades I can while balancing my time correctly between school and volleyball. The majors I would like to go into include PreMedicine and Biomedical Engineering, so I can provide myself with the best prerequisites for medical school. I would like to play at a less competitive Division 2 or high-level NAIA, so I have the opportunity to assist my parents with my college expenses, play competitive volleyball, and still have time to do my best on my school work. The farthest distance I would like to go for college would be five hours. I want to be close enough so I can drive home incase of an emergency, but I would like to be far enough to get the full college experience. I want to have a different experience compared to what I have grown up with in Southern Illinois. All in all, I want to participate in competitive college volleyball while achieving the best grades I am capable of.
