Personal Statement
I'm Rachel Gonzalez a 5'6" Setter on my high school varsity team at Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park. I have been playing volleyball since 6th grade, however my love of the game had started before that. When I was younger I would go with my aunt to my cousin's volleyball games and loved being able to watch them play but I loved it even more when they would let me practice with them. Since then I practiced with friends and family learning all I could and by my Freshman year I was a starter for my varsity team. When I was not training with my team I would go to camps, even watch college teams online to sharpen my skills. While I go to a small school I would take what I learned and helped the girls on my team to preform better. This dedication to the game and learning lead to my team vote me as team captain for the past 2 years.
The game has taught me discipline and that hard work can translate into other areas of my life. I have wanted to study Law since 4th grade and with volleyball plus the lessons that I learned on and off the court, I have a 4.0 GPA out of 4 taking both Honor and AP classes on top of Volleyball, Softball, National Honors Society and helping the community through my school's Concept Young Scholars Program.
I look forward to taking my leadership and hard work to my next team, learning from my peers and helping with my skills to become an exceptional team member and college student.
