Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Lilianna Fehr, and I am currently a junior at Eureka High School. I have been playing volleyball for as long as I can remember. Ever since I started the sport around second grade, my skills and techniques have certainly evolved over the years, and I began dreaming about playing volleyball throughout high school, and even college. My interest in playing at the collegiate level had sparked when my school volleyball team and I, along with our coaches, had visited Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, to watch the Redbirds volleyball team play in a match. Watching all the players work together with such energy and enthusiasm in the game had motivated me to pursue my dream of being a part of a college volleyball team as well.
In middle school, I have played as a defense specialist for my school team in eighth grade and for my Eastside Club (https://www.eastsidecomvb.) team for three years. I moved on to play as the libero for the freshman team as a freshman and for the junior-varsity team as a sophomore in high school. In addition, I have also played as the libero on my East side club team during the fall and winter months of my sophomore year of 2019. During the spring months of my freshman and sophomore year, I took time away from volleyball to participate in track and field, and during the summer months, I continued my conditioning (lifting and training for volleyball) in preparation for our school season in the Fall 2019. During the summer, I had also participated in our Eureka High School summer league and the Illinois Central College league in East Peoria, Illinois for two years 2018-2019.
For my junior year of high school, I am currently training, lifting, and competing in summer leagues in my region and at the Illinois Central College league as varsity. I plan to play volleyball for the travel team through Eastside Club Volleyball during the winter months and spring months of my junior year 2019-2020. I feel that putting my focus on volleyball will help me improve my skills in preparation to play at the college level.
I believe that setting and meeting the shirt and long term goals will help me set the pace for future opportunities. Therefore, as a student, I always strive to perform my very best in school, whether it would be on a small worksheet to a semester exam. Academics have always been one of my top priorities in school and they are important when determining a college that I am preparing for. As an athlete, sports should be taken seriously as well. Specifically, I am determined in improving my skills and techniques with practice and discipline. I believe that not only it is important for an athlete to work on their skills individually, but to also work with their team to improve.
And most importantly, one of my strongest assets I have developed, as a player, is that I am quick on the court and that I have a good ability to read the ball in the back row. Liberoes are meant to carry the team and to be the team's "back bone," and I believe that I fit the position well.
