Personal Statement
My name is Lexi Barry and I am a Junior at Hartsburg- Emden High School. I have been playing volleyball since I was in 1st grade. During jr. high my team won 2 -7th grade and 3- 8th grade IESA State Championships. These were exciting times but during these years I also realized that I was small for the game of volleyball. I did not let that get me down though. I loved it and wanted to continue to play. I was determined and worked hard. During my 8th grade year, my coach asked if I would play on the high school club team as a setter to get ready for the upcoming high school season. The club season was during my jr. high season so I would practice with my jr. high team after school and then head to club practice. I played jr. high games during the week and high school club tournaments on the weekends. I learned how to use my time wisely and continued to maintain a 3.9 GPA. After that season, I set a goal to play on the varsity team as a freshman. I knew it would be tough since the year before the team had placed 2nd in the IHSA State Tournament and there were four returning seniors. I worked on my jump serve and passing and ended up playing DS half-way through the season. It was during my freshman year that I figured out where my size fit into the game.
My academics are just as important to me as volleyball. I am a student athlete and so time management skills are important. I have maintained a 3.9 out of a 4.0 GPA and have always been on the honor roll. My goals are to play college volleyball and to become a physical therapist. I believe my hard work will pay off and I am excited for my future!
