Personal Statement
Since I started playing volleyball in the 6th grade, my love for the sport continues to expand every time I step onto the court. Being born a natural leader, I am referred to as my "team's outlet," Whether my team is up or down. I am always the first to start communicating during a play, lend words of encouragement, and cheer when the play is over. From maintaining a 4.0 GPA at a college prep private high school with demanding courses, starting on varsity as a freshman, attending private lessons after school, having club practice multiple nights a week, being in a leadership group at my school ( Caxy Keys) and always squeezing in time to give back to my community, there is no question I'm a busy girl. Balancing all these things while being successful in them has taught me to be responsible, organized, and hardworking. These traits have not only led me to be the starting Libero on my varsity team, but also have led me to win Miss Illinois three times, as well as winning the National Tiltle against 50 other states in 2014. As a titleholder I have done over 350 hours of community service, and continue to build on that number today. As a natural competitor, I am always ready for anything. I am the type of person who will go after what I want with everything in me. Not only can I physically pick up hard driven balls, but it has always come naturally for me to mentally pick up my teammates, as well as myself if needed. From giving my teammates encouragement, calling the huddles, or simply just giving a high five and a smile before a play, it's my goal to spread positivity, as I am a strong believer that you can't win a match if there is bad energy on the court.
In addition to persevering on the court, I also do so in the classroom. As a freshman I excelled in honors geometry, Spanish 2, and physics; a typical 11th grade course. As a sophomore, I am taking AP world history, advanced chemistry, and Spanish 3. Singing has also been a huge part of my life, which is why I have been in choir since 6th grade. Singing and volleyball are my biggest stress-relievers, and when I walk into the music room or onto the court, it always takes my mind off of everyday life. which explains why I love both so much, and also have such a loud voice. Being the type of person where quick movement and communication inspires me to work harder, in the future I see myself having a job where I am not just sitting at a desk all day. Doing something where I can interact with and help children would fulfill my dreams, like being a teacher, speech therapist, or child phycologist. Living in Chicago my whole life where from November to April the ground is never clear of snow, I would love to go somewhere warm; however, I am a very open minded person who is willing to adjust my plan for good reasons.
