Personal Statement

My name is Emma Jacobs, Class of 2020. My volleyball goal is to play in college where I can improve my skills while receiving a great education.

I play volleyball for Trinity High School in River Forest, IL and Wildcat Jrs Volleyball Club as an outside hitter. I have played every front row position and love all six rotations. I am a true 6'0" in my bare feet and weigh 155 pounds. I have won three regional titles during high school, and I have been named All-Conference Team for the GCAC, an extremely competitive conference with excellent athletes on every team three times and Conference Player of the Year once. I was also selected for the Special Mention All-State Team.

I started playing volleyball in 4th grade for my school team and loved it from the start.  I was a competitive swimmer, but after enjoying the camaraderie of a team, I focused more on volleyball while also participating in basketball, softball, and track.  Since starting high school, I have focused on volleyball while still playing softball during the summer for a local league.

I have the highest GPA in my class, and my number one priority is academics. I earn every one of my A’s by surpassing all expectations on every project and test.

I am fortunate to attend a rigorous high school, and I want a university that will challenge me academically and allow me to grow intellectually in order to pursue a career as a museum curator.

Athletically, I have always been the steadiest player on the court.  I relish that stress during a game, and in college, I want to continue to grow as a player, learning from more experienced players and coaches. I want to learn to take risks while continuing to be the most dependable person on the court.  My strongest attribute is my gameplay. During practice without the excitement of a game, I think about plays, about what I need to do to improve myself, and about how I can help improve my team by learning every person’s rotation. During a game, I focus on my number one job, keeping the ball off the floor, so we can score.  It is never just about me. I understand that I play on a team, and we can only win as a team. As a leader for my team, I keep my team positive and pumped to close out close matches.
