My name is Miraya Moore and I live in Carmel Indiana and play volleyball for my high school team as well as club volleyball at Munciana Indy. For each of the teams I have played for, I play both opposite and middle. In the fall of 2020 which was the completion of my junior year of volleyball, I was awarded the "Most Improved" player which was a unanimous vote from my peers. My coach said I won this award because I always have a smile on my face, was always ready to play, and was thrown into some difficult situations and handled it well. What I would bring to your program is someone who is mature, coachable, loyal, works hard and is always smiling.
I want to play volleyball throughout college for many reasons. I played travel basketball for 6 years and I learned that I didn’t love the sport as much as I did volleyball after I started playing volleyball at a more competitive level. Unlike basketball, I love the unique team aspect of volleyball because you must rely on your teammates to get three hits to get the ball over the net. I love playing with my teammates and experiencing small victories with them. I like how there is always something you can improve and work on and you are not perfect at anything. I think that is why volleyball is a perfect fit for my personality and mentality. I always want something to work on to make me a better player. I love to learn different plays, serves, and spots to hit that work best.
To tell you a little bit about my life in volleyball, I am a very fast learner and the most common thing that coaches tell me is that I have a ton of potential and I am coachable. I have always been a fast learner, and I can improve in a short period of time. I went from playing at Academy Grand Park on the 14-3’s team and I didn’t play much for the right reasons. At that time, I was only playing to be with my friends, and I enjoyed the social aspect of the sport. The amount I improved in between that year and when I made the 15-1’s at Munciana Indy is incredible. Since then, I keep getting better and I’ve been told I am not even close to what I can achieve. I am very hardworking, determined, and always want to get better. I tend to never be satisfied with my level of play and always want to improve. My versatility in playing both opposite and middle is an advantage for me that I am very grateful for.
To tell you a little bit about me personally, I am not initially outwardly expressive because I try to figure things out privately before opening up about a situation. As early as middle school, I was recognized as someone that stays away from drama and instead brings people to a common ground. My parents play a huge role in my character development but with my dad being a Police Officer I have strong moral characteristics to live up to. I have a sweet disposition, am very coachable, and I can get along with anybody. Those around me would say that I am always happy and in a good mood. Just recently, I took a college Myers-Briggs Test and my results show that Elementary Education would be a good career path for me. Those who have known me since I was very little would not be surprised if I end up being a kindergarten teacher. This field appeals to me because I love children, specifically younger kids. The most important thing to me outside of volleyball would be my love for my bichon poodle named Maddie. I’ve had her since she was a puppy and she is the highlight of my day. I also enjoy taking our boat out on the lake with my friends and family. My favorite place to visit is Destin, Florida which is where my parents also got married.
