My name is Sydney Stutsman, and I am a setter for the Class of 2022. From the moment that I stepped on the Volleyball court in the 4th grade, I knew that this sport was something special. My coach told me then that I had the “hands of a setter.” Since then, my love for the game, and the position, has grown exponentially. From the moment I step onto the court, I have one job. To make myself, and my teammates, the best we can be.
My freshman year, I led my Junior Varsity team through the season. One of my best characteristics on the court is that I never give up. Whether it’s diving for a ball, running after a shank, or digging the ball out of the net, you can know that I gave it my all to put the ball back into play. So much so, that I earned the award for JV Player of the Year. My hustle and my hard work paid off. I was the starting setter for my high school’s Varsity team this past season and an NECC All Conference Honorable Mention setter. I was proud to help propel my high school team to not only win a Sectional title, but also a Regional title, and a ticket to the Final Four. I had 2 goals for myself this past season. The first, to achieve 1000 assists on the season. And the second, to help lead our team to a State title. Sadly, our season ended at Semi-State. And though I was just shy of 1000 assists by 97, I couldn’t be more proud of the season for both myself, and my team. And, I’m anxiously awaiting next season for another chance at becoming a State Champion.
I love the sport of Volleyball and hope to continue my career in college at a school with both strong athletics and academics. Although I’m not sure of my major at this point, I do love the subject of Math. I love the critical thinking that goes along with the subject, and feel that it helps me to problem solve in my setting position on the court.
Lastly, I love to travel with my family. One of our favorite destinations is Walt Disney World in Florida. My family calls it “our happy place.”
