Hello! My name Rory Burke, and I have been playing volleyball since the third grade. Volleyball has always been a passion of mine; whether it was fall, winter, spring, or summer, I always had a volleyball in my hand. But, in my life, school has always come before sports. I have spent my high school career taking extra clubs and classes to get ahead to pursue my dream of being Valedictorian. I don't come from a large school, I've been in the same school system all my life; but, I have just as much thrive and passion as someone in a larger school with a harder path to reaching varsity level.
Career path wise, I would love to attend a college with a Marine Biology- Marine Mammalogy courses. I have always had a love for the ocean, just as I have a love for volleyball. I am different from other recruits because I take whatever is thrown at me and I work it out. I don't give up on something simply because it is difficult. There have been times when my team has fallen apart and I haven't given up on my Lady Ravens. Life is a roller coaster full of ups and downs... I am not going to get off because there is a loop in the track.
I have been a leader on my team since the sixth grade. I help get the girls excited for the points we have earned, shake off the points we lose, and help motivate them to earn that point back. My team means everything to me; I never let a bad attitude stand in the way of supporting my teammates. This characteristic has helped me start every game and help lead my team through every point. Academically, I am the top of my class at IPA. I have a 4.0 GPA and have my course for next year set up with all A/P and C/C classes. I plan on taking my SATs and ACTs within the next year to leave plenty of time for community service and my Girl Scout Gold Award senior year.
Thank you for reading my personal statement. Thank you for the opportunity to be looked at as a possible athlete on your team.
