Personal Statement
Five years ago as a 5th Grader, I was introduced to the game of volleyball. I had played many sports throughout my early childhood, but volleyball was different for me. Volleyball became my athletic passion. I immediately fell in love with the game and I continue to work hard to develop and fine tune my skills.
My goal is to play volleyball collegiately. I realize that takes a lot of work both on and off the court. I realize the value in the classroom to my opportunities on the court. I currently carry a 4.0 GPA through my middle school career and plan to continue to work hard in the classroom to maintain quality grades so that I will be more attractive to college's and universities.
I currently play for Union Volleyball Club (IN). I have played for IN 13 Black and 14 Green (COVID shortened season). While I have been a setter on most every team in school ball, I have had the opportunity to also learn the Defensive Specialist position along with setting on my club team. The 13U team had great success and finished 5th at the AAU National Tournament in Orlando Florida and 9th in the USVA Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. I played DS for most of the season but was the backup setter and handled those duties while the setter was out with an injury during the season. We finished 78-24 on the season.
I have currently been playing setter in a 5-1 system for our varsity high school team as a freshman. I have also played setter in a 5-1 for our JV team in a few matches as well to get more reps early on in my high school career.
This past fall (Fall 2021), I have played three positions as I navigate through a dislocated finger that was suffered in our pre-season scrimmage match which happened on August 12th. For the first part of this season, I have played in a wrapped cast, splint, or brace depending on the night and my role. As a result of all of this, I have played setter, libero, and defensive specialist off and on throughout the Fall 2021 campaign. I did miss five games (4 on a Saturday tournament two days after the dislocation) as a result of the injury. I feel that my primary position going forward and throughout my transition to the collegiate game with be as a DS or Libero. I am completely committed to learning this new position and helping my team in anyway possible to be the best we can be.
I currently play club for the 16-3 Union Under Armour team. I am playing a 6-2 setter position for this team currently. I love to set but I also love to play defense. I truly believe that I will be a versatile asset at the collegiate level as I can play defense as a DS or L and also run the offense as a setter.
I am excited and looking forward to continuing to pursue my dream of playing volleyball beyond my four years of high school.
