Personal Statement
My name is Justina Thomae. I was given the opportunities to commit to different sports and activities because I went to a small school. The biggest stand out for me was volleyball. I was drawn in with its fast pace and team dynamic. I wanted to take a further step and start club volleyball in sixth grade. From playing volleyball, I have learned about my strengths, being a leader, and my weaknesses, having low confidence. With my skill of leadership, I was allowed to be captain of my club teams, and have a good connection with the people on my teams. With my lack of confidence, I have had troubles with knowing and accepting my good skills making me focus on my mistakes. Through the time I have played volleyball to now, I have changed drastically. I am now able to recognize the good qualities I have on the court and find a way to use those skills to the advantage of the team.
In high school and college, I academically want to learn more and understand more to readily prepare me for the world outside of school as well as new job possibilities. I am interested in mathematics and sciences. My goal is to pass the dental admission test and get into dental school, later becoming a dentist.
I am fortunate enough to have learned commitment, determination, communication skills, and optimism from my five siblings, parents, and moving to a new state my eighth grade year. These characteristics will help me be amenable and a great addition to any group or team.
