Personal Statement
I was born and raised on a small Mediterranean island called Cyprus.
I am currently a student of the American Academy Nicosia which is a Private English School following the IGCSE and A level British Exam Syllabus that leads to the completion of British External Exams. I Graduate in June 2022 and I am aiming to start my studies in the USA in the Fall Semester of the same year as it is known for its quality education and high-level Volleyball.
My volleyball journey started at age 12 playing for a first division team, called Olympiada, as a setter. From the first year I played in the under 14 and under 16 Championship as the first setter and the following year at age 14 I also played as a second setter for the under 18 Championship. At only the age of 15 I played as first setter in both U16 and U18 Championships. Midyear my coaches trusted my capabilities moving me up to practice with the Women’s First Division team. I practiced beside highly skilled players which took part in very competitive league games and participated in national teams, such as France and Croatia. In November 2019 I played my first game with the women’s team as the starting setter ending up winning the game. Playing alongside these players improved my skills and helped me build my character and level of maturity. In addition in the same year in December of 2019 I got selected to try out for the U17 National Team and I was among the initial 30 players, then included in the 16 final players and finally selected in the 12 players that would be going to the Official Euro Volleyball Tournament in Croatia. We played against Croatia, Austria, Israel and Hungary, I participated in all the games.
As I played in many different age groups I got to work with a number of high profile coaches not only from Cyprus but from abroad, this taught me different skills, developing tremendously as a player and I learnt how to read and analyze games.
In the summer of 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 I attended private professional volleyball camps in Greece. These camps enabled me to learn more about my sport and position, helping me to advance in not only my passing but also my way of thinking, teaching me that my position has a lot more thinking and analyzing.
As I still have two years before I graduate, I will be working hard to improve my skills further. During these 2 years I will have the privilege to be coached by one of the most successful and known coaches in Greece, Coach Giannis Nicolakis. A coach that has won 11 titles in Greece and was head coach for many years in the National Team of Greece and Cyprus.
Volleyball plays a huge part in my life and I plan to continue playing while pursuing my University studies.
