Personal Statement
My name is Seville Gates and I attend Shawnee Mission North High School. I'm currently a sophomore and I participate in a freshman mentoring program, as well as reading to elementary school kids through a program ran by my school. I love traveling and being outside, my aspirations for college are to attain a degree in environmental science, but I'm still deciding what I want to do for my career.
What makes me stand out from other players is my energy. I refuse to stop giving my all. No matter how far behind my team could be, I will still give my all to better myself every play. My goal is to always be the biggest impact player on the court. The feeling I get after a huge block or killing a ball on the ten foot line is exhilarating. Feeling my team around me and being able to do my part is the reason I love the game so much.
When I'm not playing volleyball, I'm participating in varsity soccer, or varsity track. If I'm not playing sports, I'm lifting weights twice a day and working out at a vertical training academy. I grew up participating in karate for 6 years, taking swim lessons, and playing softball whenever I could. When it comes to accomplishments, I've lettered both my years of high school for varsity volleyball and I was just recently nominated for the Sunflower League honorable mention team. I play for Dynasty Volleyball 16-2's and this is just my second year playing extremely competitive ball. The love I have for this game is what keeps me going and showing up to early morning workouts. I know that in just a few short years my volleyball career will be over and I'll be aching to do everything all over again, so why not do it the best I can right now.
