Personal Statement
I remember my first volleyball practice like it was yesterday. After that practice, I realized how much I enjoyed this sport and, ever since then, I have dreamed of playing college volleyball. Since I was three years old, I have been actively involved in sports whether it was volleyball, sand volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, or dance. I have always been a determined and optimistic person both on and off the court. During my years of volleyball, I have learned many valuable life lessons. Volleyball has taught me that hard work pays off and to persevere through difficulties.
In seventh grade, I participated in a writing contest where I nominated a peer at my middle school that demonstrated our district’s values for the Sunflower Ambassador award. I was fortunate enough to have the winning essay for our school and it was an honor when we were recognized at our district’s annual community breakfast.
I consider myself to be a student-athlete. I have worked diligently during high school to maintain good grades and this is my goal for college. I intend to pursue a degree in secondary education and become a social studies teacher. In addition, I plan on becoming a volleyball coach so that I can share my love of the game with the next generation of volleyball players. Some of my favorite volleyball coaching experiences so far have been working with elementary age players at skills camps and seeing their enjoyment of the game.
On the court, I want to lead by example whether it is encouraging a teammate or remaining positive when a play or match did not go the way I planned. In life, I believe you have to always look for the good that is to come.
