Personal Statement
My name is McKenna Oathout and I am 5'5",130 lbs, 2016 graduate, and I am from Wellington, Kansas.One of my dreams came true this past club season when my team went to Nationals and placed 5th in American Division. We qualified for Nationals with a region bid and then also received a bid when we won Lone Star NQ American Division. I am playing with the same club team this season - ICT MAVS 18-1. I have been on the WHS varsity volleyball team since I was a freshman. I have been blessed to receive several honors the past few years. This year as a Junior I was selected AVCTL Div 4 -2nd team, Clearwater All-Tournament Team and Chaparral All-Tournament Team. As a Sophomore I was also AVCTL-Div 4 2nd team and Clearwater All-Tournament Team. My freshman year I was the only freshman in AVCTL-Div 4 to be honored and received Honorable Mention. During my freshman year I served 94.5% and moved up onto the WHS school record board. Another honor during my sophomore year was that I was selected AVCTL Div 4- 2nd Team for softball. This 2014 volleyball season, I ran a 6-2 and played all the way around. The previous 2 years I had run a 5-1. I have dreamed of playing at the collegiate level ever since I was a little girl, and I hope to someday be able to. Throughout the many years that I have been playing volleyball, I have learned about myself that once I have a goal I will not stop until I have reached that goal. I set high goals for myself. I strive to be the best teammate possible because letting my team down is one of my biggest fears. I am very competitive whether it is playing card games with my family, playing dodgeball with my friends, or on the court. A very important responsibility that I put on myself is to be a leader on and off the court 24/7. Academics are the #1 thing in my life, but volleyball comes in at a close 2nd. Even though I hold a 4.0 GPA it doesn't necessarily mean that school is easy for me. I work hard to achieve my academic goals just like I do with my goals on the court. I am a family-oriented girl and look forward to finding a school where my volleyball team will be my family away from home and we can take the court as fierce competition!
