Personal Statement
I have loved volleyball since I was in kindergarten and my Mom used to take me to the school where she was a principal to watch the games. I couldn't wait until I was old enough to start playing. I used to practice with balloons in our living room so that I wouldn't break anything. I have been playing since 5th grade and it has changed my life in so many ways. I have a strong work ethic which helps me in everything but especially in volleyball. I work all year. I take extra lessons, I work out in my garage at home. I play on a travel team during the off season. I want to be the best and I am willing to put in the extra work because I know that is what it take in life to be successful. I also love the competition that comes from surrounding yourself with great players. It pushes me to work even harder so that I can compete with them. I am also really tough. I will play through illness, through pain and discomfort. My Dad says there is a difference between being hurt and being injured and I follow that philosophy because I don't ever want to let my team or myself down. My goals are to play volleyball in college if I can, but most importantly to obtain my degree and pursue a career in the medical field. I love to help people and I feel like I can make a difference through nursing. I am in the 9th grade this year and I am taking Health Sciences classes to get a head start. I also made the varsity team this year as a Freshman. Right now I am playing middle hitter and blocker but I also enjoy playing back row and outside hitter. In the fall I plan on trying out for a few travel teams to try and find the best fit for me. I always want to improve and keep practicing. Volleyball is a huge part of my life. It has helped me overcome many of my doubts and insecurities about myself. It has helped me believe in myself so that I can write my own definition of myself. Peyton Powell, a successful person.
