Personal Statement
My approach to volleyball is the same as it is in life. I am a team player with an internal drive for excellence. I believe that winning means working hard and helping others to achieve their own potential. I am a straight A honor student in a dual English/Hebrew curriculum program and was named floor captain of my high school varsity volleyball team as a freshman. During my freshman season, my team record improved from 1-8 the previous year to 5-5 and the regional semifinals. I started playing club volleyball with Baltimore Elite Volleyball Club in Baltimore, MD when I was 10 years old on the 14s team, and today, at 14, I trying out for the travel 16 team as a libero. Over the last four years on my travel/club team, I have played offensive and defensive positions, so I am able to see the court from multiple points of view. My experience as a defensive player allows me to support my team with my biggest strengths: my receive percentage/passing, my awareness of the court, and my serve. I love volleyball and I am passionate about the sport, but I also believe maintaining a balance in life and a focus on priorities is important. I couldn't be the player I am today without the support of my coaches, my parents, my friends, and my family. As a child of divorce, this sport has brought continuity to my life and given me the confidence to face all of life's challenges with calmness, open-mindedness, and strength.
I would like to play for a college team that will utilize my unique skill set as a defensive specialist to complement a team of dedicated, skillful, teammates who are passionate about the game of volleyball. One day I would like to take all that I have learned from the sport and channel it into the competitive world of law. Being a lawyer would fulfill my need to help others dealing with complex issues to make the best of their own lives.
