Personal Statement
A strong work ethic, a compassion for others and a drive to get the job done are expressions that are often used by others to characterize me and are how I characterize myself. These are principles I apply in every aspect of my life, from academics, to life on the court, to being there for my friends and teammates.
It was these characteristics that helped me to lead my middle school volleyball team to its first undefeated season and my senior year varsity team to its first undefeated regular season. My desire to grow as a leader and as a player has forced me to seek out ways to develop my personal skills and inspire my teammates to see our own limitations as potential victories.
I realize that the start of all I am begins with my relationship with Christ. I must first work to grow in that relationship before I can grow in any other area. When I keep that as my focus, I know I can trust God to lead me in all other areas of my life.
My career goals are still undecided at this point in my life. There are some areas of study I would like to explore as potential life goals and careers. For most of my high school life, I have had a desire to pursue a career in forensic engineering based on some research I did for a science fair project. I enjoy chemistry and scientific research. Lately, I have considered other possibilities: teaching, coaching, and management analysis. A recent mission trip involving teaching English to Moldovans made me realize how much I enjoy helping others learn. I know that whatever career I choose, I will want to help others in some capacity. It is that type of characteristic that makes me a good team member. I may not start out with the most skill in an area, but my drive to be a good teammate and do my best will force me to rise to the occasion. My prayer is that God will use this in the lives of whatever teammates he places me with.
