Personal Statement
I started playing volleyball my sophomore year in high school. I tried out for my school’s JV Varsity team. Over three dozen students tried out hoping to secure a spot on the JV or Varsity team that year. I was overwhelmed with joy when I was selected. I have always been athletic and enjoyed playing sports. Prior to playing volleyball, I played girls basketball starting in third grade through my first year in high school. However, I never felt the same thrill intensity in playing basketball that I get in playing volleyball; especially in my position of middle blocker.
I have quick timing and I am quick to adapt to the movements of the opposing team to block shots and give kill shots. I am kind, focused, disciplined, and have a good competitive fire. I am a team player and strive to be a positive role model to all my fellow students. Playing volleyball in college would be a once in lifetime opportunity that would allow me to continue to play a sport that I have absolutely fallen in love with.
I like to refer to myself as a student athlete. I have a 3.659 GPA. I challenge myself academically by taking a mixture of AP, and honors classes as course scheduling allows for it. When AP course scheduling conflicts with honors courses, the school's policy is to place in the AP classes. For this reason, I was only able to take two AP courses this year.
During my free time I volunteer at an Assisted Living Facility. During the summer months I partake in academic enrichment programs, and if time permits I volunteer as a camp counselor for the United States Naval Academy Girls Technology Camp in Annapolis, MD. This was one of my favorite camps when I was younger and why I am so passionate about giving back to this camp.
My goal is to attend a college where I can continue to challenge myself both academic and athletic. More than anything I want to be a doctor, so it is important that the college I attend offers majors that will help me prepare for the next step in life. I am open to all collegiate options. I want to find the right college match with a good level of competition.
