I’ve always been competitive. Growing up with a twin brother made that a character trait that I would hold on to. This helped me have a very successful eight years in competitive gymnastics, which came to an end when I decided that volleyball was the right sport for me. Those eight years as a gymnast taught me many things, but I never really understood the true meaning of the word “grit” until my forearms were in so much pain after the first time I went to a volleyball clinic. People say an athlete needs to be smart, agile, talented, etc. But to me, success in volleyball only comes if you have grit; the grit to do one last wind sprint, the grit to throw your whole body on the floor to save a ball, the grit to give every game your all, and most importantly, the grit to compete. I believe that with my grit along with my competitiveness, natural leadership, and passion for volleyball, I can be a great asset to a collegiate volleyball team.
